Brown fused alumina is made by fusing and purifying in a pouring electric arc furnace at a temperature of over 2200° C with high-quality bauxite, carbon material, and iron filings as the main materials. The raw material of brown fused alumina is aluminum oxide powder.

It can be distinguished from the smelting furnace, it can be divided into dumping furnace(also called tilting furnace) and fixed furnace. Compared with the fixed furnace, the production of brown fused alumina in tilting furnace is a little better. Its appearance is more apparently in the content of SiO2. The content of SiO2 in the production of brown fused alumina in tilting furnace is less than that of the fixed furnace.
Abrasive grade BFA :
Brown Fused Alumina (BFA) is made from Calcined Bauxite. It is a hard and tough material, used in manufacturing of grinding wheels (both vitrified and resin bonded) and coated products. These grains are also used for shot blasting and as polishing media. It is available in grit sizes as per FEPA for abrasive applications and group grits for refractory applications.
